Project Pear Blossom

1892 Seoul, Korea

(Complete at 38,000 words)

Soojung’s life ended the day her brother Youngshik was born. Condemned to a life within the courtyard walls as her brother’s keeper, she longs for the relative freedom Servant Lady and her daughter Jiwon enjoy.

When Youngshik gets injured in an accident, Soojung is cast out on the streets for her carelessness, stumbling right into the care of foreigners at Pear Blossom Academy. It’s the first school in Korea for girls and it offers Soojung a boundless world of education, one in which women can heal, teach, and see the world.

She manages to land Jiwon a spot at the school, but bringing Servant Lady to Pear Blossom Academy poses more of a challenge. If she and Jiwon can’t find a way to pay off the debt that shackles Servant Lady to a life of service, they’ll never truly be free to embark on the new paths they’ve discovered.
